Program Description
This advanced OnDemand course is an in-depth training connected to Sara Gilman's OnDemand advanced EMDR training course focusing on helping athletes and other performers improve their peak performance, return from set-backs or injuries and clear-up blocks or yips that interferes with optimal performance.
This training brings together top EMDR clinicians from around the country to share how they work with this population from case conceptualization, to specific interventions depending on the unique situations that performers present.
Participants will build their skills in utilizing the basic EMDR protocol and early EMDR intervention protocols, with other modalities, in the office and in the performers competitive arena. Demonstrations will be shown of how EMDR is integrated with HeartMath Tools, Guided Imagery and Self-regulating skills. The afternoon practicum will allow participants to practice how to introduce these modalities and in what situations they can be used. Topics include working with young athletes, using an "intensive model," addressing underlying diagnosis, interactions with Coaches and parents, defining performance success and failure and how to manage both, utilizing assessment tools and how to create a business of performance counseling.
Abstract
Several studies show that using EMDR with performers can decrease anxiety, shift negative views and desensitize memories of upsetting events, resulting in improved performance (Foster, S. & Lendl, J., 1996; Bennett, J., Bickley, J., Vernon, T., et al., 2017). This course is the extended and in-depth version of an advanced EMDR training course that focuses on helping athletes and other performers improve their peak performance, return from set-backs or injuries, and clear-up blocks or yips that interfere with optimal performance. This training brings together top EMDR clinicians from around the country to share how they work with this population from case conceptualization, to specific interventions depending on the unique situations that performers present. Participants will build on their skills in utilizing the basic EMDR protocol and early EMDR intervention protocols, with other modalities, in the office and in the performers competitive arena. Demonstrations will be shown of how EMDR is integrated with HeartMath Tools, Guided Imagery and Self-regulating skills. Videos of practice allow participants to practice how to introduce these modalities and in what situations they can be used. Topics include working with young athletes, using an ‘intensive model’, addressing underlying diagnosis, interactions with Coaches and parents, defining performance success and failure and how to manage both, utilizing assessment tools and how to create a business of performance counseling.
