Program Description
Harnessing the Power Within: Attachment-Centered Resources through Visualization in EMDR Therapy is an advanced course exploring the integration of Attachment-Centered Resources, focusing on Resource Development and Installation (RDI) within the context of the AIP model. Participants learn visualization, cultivating internal resources aligned with the client's values and belief systems. Practical techniques for setting up visualizations, particularly those involving life after death, are explored, along with strategies for effective debriefing to assess shifts toward adaptive thinking.
Abstract
This advanced course for EMDR therapy clinicians delves into the transformative realm of Attachment-Centered Resources in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, specifically focusing on Resource Development and Installation (RDI). Grounded in Francine Shapiro's AIP model and the Standard Eight Phase protocol, the course explores the synergy between transpersonal psychology, neuroscience, and secure attachment. Visualization emerges as a powerful tool, aligning with clients' values and belief systems to foster internal resource development.
The course navigates the neurological intricacies of deep meditation and its role in intensifying visualizations. Participants will gain insights into connecting neuroscience with secure attachment, emphasizing the impact of attunement with a secure attachment figure. Practical guidance is provided on setting up visualizations, particularly those addressing life after death, while respecting clients' beliefs. The course culminates in strategies for effective debriefing, enabling therapists to assess the effectiveness of visualizations in facilitating adaptive shifts in clients' thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Mental health professionals seeking to elevate their EMDR therapy practice will find this presentation a valuable exploration of the intersection between attachment theory, visualization, and neuroscience.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize the role of Attachment-Centered Resources, including Resource Development and Installation (RDI) within the framework of the AIP model.
2. Describe the rationale behind EMDR therapy as a form of transpersonal psychology and its impact on guided imagery and visualizations.
3. Explain the connection between neuroscience, secure attachment, and the impact of visualization on the brain.
4. Recall how a deep meditative state intensifies visualization and note the neurological changes that occur during this state.
5. Demonstrate how to set up visualizations that respect and incorporate clients' beliefs and values about life after death.
6. Demonstrate at least one technique in assessing the effectiveness of visualizations to create shifts towards adaptive thinking, feeling, and behaving and conduct appropriate debriefing.
