“Thank you so much for the clear, conscience descriptions and the repetition of them. Most especially, I’d like to thank you for doing the hard work of providing actual demonstrations and videos of the work. It’s so helpful to be provided the information as live/recorded examples. Finally, seeing your empathy in the moments of the work and how you expressed it and noticed nuisances in the client was very helpful as well.”
“This course was fantastic and great addition to my EMDR therapy training!”
“I've taken a previous training on this topic, and this was better by far. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the information.”
“It increased my ability to integrate ego state/ IFS with EMDR.”
“Andrew was a wonderful instructor. I learned a great deal and look forward to implementing ego states/parts work into my practice. Thank you!”
“Andrew Seubert was knowledgeable and engaging.”
“Enlightening and informative. Essential for anyone working with parts/ego states. ”
“Fantastic. I took this course to learn how to practically treat and address the disruptive dissociative behaviors I was observing in my EMDR clients, whether it was SUDs not going down despite my best efforts, blocking beliefs, or outright verbalization of inner conflict, and this training gave me a fantastic framework and tool set to be able to facilitate that inner attachment relationship healing process with the self without creating something that is not there and following what is showing up. I feel empowered to be able to identify these presentations, appropriately assess for them, and therapeutically facilitate that meeting of self that is so critical to the safety and anchoring point needed for EMDR reprocessing.”
This intermediate level OnDemand course is a practical training in the integration of "parts" or ego state work within EMDR practice. It has evolved from Andrew Seubert’s work as an EMDR consultant and trainer, during which Andrew realized the crucial need for ego state competence when working with trauma and dissociation (this workshop will NOT address extreme forms of dissociation, viz., DID). This is a relational model that utilizes the relationship among parts, client and therapist to achieve personality-wide collaboration and eventual healing. It is completely compatible with other models of parts therapy.
The course goal is for participants to acquire the competence and confidence to utilize ego state work within a trauma-informed approach. This applies to both those new to the use of parts work, as well as those wishing to hone their existing skills.
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify three major approaches to explaining ego state phenomena.
- Explain the acronym, RUG-C, to describe the major steps in working with parts.
- Practice the conference room technique to make contact with parts.
- Identify two scenarios that complicate and, potentially, interfere with parts work.
- Recall the “5 Rs” as a mnemonic to recall the steps in resource (reparenting) work with young ego states.
- Apply a strategy regarding where and when an ego state approach fits into the EMDR phase model.
- Explain how to make contact with and utilize healthy and helpful parts of the personality.
- Identify how to provide attachment repair of wounded, younger parts.
