Instructor: Andrew Seubert, LMHC, NCC

Andrew Seubert, LMHC, NCC, is the co-founder of ClearPath Healing Arts Center in Corning and Burdett, N.Y. A licensed psychotherapist for 35 years, he has an extensive background in Existential-Gestalt Therapy and in music therapy, and provides EMDR consultation and training for clinicians. Andrew specializes in working with trauma, posttraumatic stress, eating disorders and the integration of spirituality and psychotherapy. A passionate and engaging international presenter and workshop facilitator, Andrew and his wife, Barbara, have co-parented a blended family of five and live presently on Seneca Lake, N.Y.

Program Description 

This intermediate level OnDemand course is a practical training in the integration of "parts" or ego state work within EMDR practice. It has evolved from Andrew Seubert’s work as an EMDR consultant and trainer, during which Andrew realized the crucial need for ego state competence when working with trauma and dissociation (this workshop will NOT address extreme forms of dissociation, viz., DID). This is a relational model that utilizes the relationship among parts, client and therapist to achieve personality-wide collaboration and eventual healing. It is completely compatible with other models of parts therapy.
The course goal is for participants to acquire the competence and confidence to utilize ego state work within a trauma-informed approach. This applies to both those new to the use of parts work, as well as those wishing to hone their existing skills.

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify three major approaches to explaining ego state phenomena.
  2. Explain the acronym, RUG-C, to describe the major steps in working with parts.
  3. Practice the conference room technique to make contact with parts.
  4. Identify two scenarios that complicate and, potentially, interfere with parts work.
  5. Recall the “5 Rs” as a mnemonic to recall the steps in resource (reparenting) work with young ego states.
  6. Apply a strategy regarding where and when an ego state approach fits into the EMDR phase model.
  7. Explain how to make contact with and utilize healthy and helpful parts of the personality.
  8. Identify how to provide attachment repair of wounded, younger parts.

Eligibility

This course is considered an advanced course for EMDR therapy clinicians.  Before enrolling in this course, participants should successfully complete an EMDRIA approved EMDR Basic Training program.
