Course Description, Learning Objectives, Schedule

Program Abstract/ Program Description

Several models of parts work exist, such as Ego State Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and the Theory of Structural Dissociation, but the overlaps may confuse or overwhelm EMDR clinicians trying to integrate these concepts into trauma therapy. This immersive 6-hour training clarifies the theoretical landscape and equips EMDR therapists with practical, parts-informed strategies to enhance case conceptualization and treatment planning. Within this training, clinicians will be able to recognize how ego states and dissociative parts manifest in sessions and identify how to engage parts across all phases of EMDR therapy. Through an integrative lens, this training guides the clinician when and how to incorporate parts work, manage clinical roadblocks like blocking beliefs and dissociation, and foster lasting healing through compassionate, parts-aware trauma reprocessing.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe ego state theory and distinguish from dissociative identity disorder (DID).
  2. Describe how ego states and parts show up in EMDR therapy.
  3. Identify at least one instance within an EMDR session to integrate parts work.
  4. Recognize structured strategies for engaging parts during all phases of EMDR.
  5. Describe at least three possible challenges when integrating parts work in an EMDR Therapy session, such as blocking beliefs, dissociation, and overwhelm.
  6. Explain integration and healing through parts-aware trauma processing.
